In Force: April 2026After 12 weeks of regular hours, your employer must offer you a guaranteed hours contract that reflects the hours you actually work. You can still choose to stay on zero hours if you prefer.
Coming: 2027Dismissing you and rehiring on worse terms is now automatically unfair dismissal in most cases. Your employer cannot cut your pay, change your hours or alter your pension by threatening to fire you.
Coming: Jan 2027The qualifying period to claim unfair dismissal is being cut from two years to just six months. New starters will gain protection much faster — and the compensation cap is being removed entirely.
Coming: Jan 2027If your employer fails to properly consult on collective redundancies, you can now claim up to 180 days' pay — double the previous maximum. Proper process is now even more important.
In Force: April 2026Paternity leave and unpaid parental leave are now available from your first day of employment — no more waiting for qualifying periods to kick in before you can take time with a new child.
